Tanukifield is renouncing life in society to walk in the footsteps of the great wandering poets: Saigyō (1100s), Sōgi (1400s), and Bashō (1600s)… weather permitting.
When Bashō set out on a journey in 1687, he wrote:
旅人と
我名よばれん
初しぐれ
"Traveler"
let that be my name
first winter rain
It may be true that attachment to worldly goods inevitably leads to suffering, so does being soaked to the bone.
