Introducing Chochi, Tanukifield's cheerfully drooling housemate.
The Chōchin'obake is an obake yokai associated with an old chōchin, a traditional Japanese paper lantern. This troublesome household pest emerged as a recognizable yokai figure during Japan's Edo period and was famously depicted in Ukiyo-e art of the time by artists such as Hokusai and Kuniyoshi. An early version also appears in the work of yokai illustrator Toriyama Sekien. A Chōchin'obake is instantly recognizable by its lantern shape, bulging eyes, and lolling tongue. They're not necessarily dangerous, but in Tanukifield's opinion, they're extremely annoying.
